Straight answers to the questions we're asked most. Can't see yours? Give us a call.

How do I arrange scaffolding hire with A&R Scaffolding?
Get in touch with us to discuss your scaffolding requirements and we can help you find the right solution for your project.
What information should I have ready when I enquire?
It helps to know the location of the job and a brief idea of the work you need scaffolding for, so we can understand your requirements.
Can you help if I’m not sure what type of scaffolding I need?
Yes, you can contact us to talk through your project, and we can help guide you towards an appropriate scaffolding solution.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes. We offer free site surveys and written, no-obligation quotes across our service area. Call us or use the enquiry form and we’ll arrange a convenient time to visit.
How much does scaffolding cost?
Every job is different - the price depends on the height and length of the scaffold, access, how long you need it and any extras such as temporary roofs. That’s why we survey first, so your quote is accurate.
How long can I hire scaffolding for?
Hire periods are agreed up front and can usually be extended if your project overruns. Just let us know as early as possible and we’ll confirm any change in writing.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you can, especially in spring and summer. Once your quote is accepted we’ll agree an erection date that fits your builder’s or roofer’s programme.
Do I need a licence if the scaffold goes on the pavement?
Yes, to have a scaffold on a public footpath/pavement you would need a licence/permit but we apply and arrange all this for you with the relevant authorities/councils. Charges do apply and vary depending on your council or Highways authority and how long the scaffold is required for.
Is the scaffolding inspected?
Yes. Scaffolds are inspected before handover, at regular intervals during the hire, and after anything that could affect their safety, such as severe weather or alterations.
How long does it take to put scaffolding up?
Most domestic scaffolds go up in a day or two. Larger or more complex commercial scaffolds take longer - we’ll give you a timescale with your quote.
Will the scaffolding damage my property?
Our team takes care to protect your property, gardens and stonework. We’ll talk you through where the scaffold will sit and how it’s tied in before we start.
Can my builder or roofer alter the scaffold?
No - for everyone’s safety only our scaffolders should adapt the scaffold. If changes are needed as the job progresses, just call us.
Should I tell my neighbours?
It’s good practice, particularly if the scaffold needs access over or near their property. We’re happy to explain what’s involved.
Which areas do you cover?
We’re based in Dursley and cover the Cotswolds, Stroud valleys, Gloucester, Cheltenham and South Gloucestershire. See our Contact page for a local map.
